NagaWorld Kind Hearts’ Strong Support to Water Wells Foundation

NagaWorld Kind Hearts, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of NagaWorld, has answered the Royal Government’s call for assistance in the sustainable rural development of Cambodia through a US$2 million donation towards community-supporting activities of the Water Wells Foundation.

Water Wells Foundation representative Lok Chumteav Pich Chanmony received the donation during a presentation ceremony attended by NagaWorld Managing Director Mr Pern Chen, Managing Director of Finance & Operations Mr Cherchi Chen, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer Mr Mike Ngai and Chief Financial Officer Mr Sean Tan.

Access to sufficient, safe, clean drinking water and sanitation is one of the most crucial basic needs for living. Cambodians in rural villages can face a lack of clean drinking water and the continuous consumption of contaminated water will have damaging effects to their health and prevent them from attending work or school.

NagaWorld Managing Director Mr Pern Chen handed over a cheque for $2 million to aid the Water Wells Foundation’s vitally important work of providing access to clean water.

“Lack of clean water remains a pressing issue facing Cambodian villagers in some rural communities, with many sourcing their drinking, cooking and bathing water from pools of standing water, streams or canals,” said Mr Pern Chen. “In extreme cases, water sources can be contaminated with pollutants or bacteria, which affects the health of local residents, sometimes severely. For these impoverished individuals, sickness only exacerbates their problems.

“Through our donation of $2 million to the Water Wells Foundation, we will together create new and hygienic sources of water for a large number of marginalised communities, providing a major improvement to their daily lives and a sturdy basis for a better future,” he added.

Lok Chumteav Pich Chanmony said, “This significant contribution is highly appreciated and the $2 million will be used to build a thousand wells across Cambodia for the benefit of over 100,000 people. With this strong support from NagaWorld Kind Hearts, we believe that our initiative will foster the sustainable development of rural areas towards cleaner and healthier living standards, as well as assisting the Royal Government in nation-building.”

Since 2014, NagaWorld Kind Hearts has conducted a wide range of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, with full support from the company, focussing on the 4 key pillars of Education Enhancement, Community Engagement, Sports Development and Environmental Care.

Amidst the unprecedented global health crisis, NagaWorld Kind Hearts has made an ongoing series of donations to the Ministry of Health including 5 laptops, 500 bottles of hand sanitiser, a Nucleic Acid Extraction System, 6,400 Viral DNA Extraction Kits and 3,000 units of virus sample collection kits. A total of 40,000 face masks, 4,000 bottles of hand sanitiser gel, and 720 litres of isopropyl alcohol were also contributed over the past 4 months to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, the General Commissariat of National Police and Phnom Penh City Hall. This brings the overall value of their donations towards Cambodia’s fight against COVID-19 to more than $68,000.
