PP Crown, NagaWorld reach Hun Sen Cup semi-finals

Phnom Penh Crown football club and NagaWorld FC outpointed their opponents in the quarter-finals to advance to the final four of the Hun Sen Cup.

The two teams booked their semis seats in Cambodia’s premier knockout tournament by virtue of superior aggregate scores.

Phnom Penh Crown FC, which was paired against Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC, won by an aggregate score of 4-2.

Phnom Penh Crown FC beat Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC, 2-1, during their leg one quarter-finals match on August 29.  The tournament went into a month-long hiatus before the quarter-finals resumed this week.

Phnom Penh Crown FC won again on Wednesday by the same score to finally book a seat in the semi-finals.

NagaWorld FC, which was paired against Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, won by an aggregate score of 4-3.

The first quarter-finals match between the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw.

On Wednesday, NagaWorld FC did not waste any time, scoring the first two goals en route to a 2-1 victory.

Midfielder Sus Suhana scored the match and NagaWorld’s first goal in the 21st minute. Defender Khim Borey followed with another goal in the 42nd minute as the first half ended with NagaWorld FC on top, 2-0.

Defender Tieng Tiny notched a goal in the 90th minute, but it was not enough to lift PKR Svay Rieng FC to victory.

PKR Svay Rieng FC had more possessions and opportunities to score, but was not able to capitalise on them. The team had 14 attempts at the goal to three for NagaWorld FC.

It was a ‘painful loss’ for PKR Svay Rieng FC, which advanced to the finals of the tournament last year.

“Congratulations and good luck. We are bitterly disappointed with the result. We will try to show that disappointment the right way on Sunday. Thanks to our supporters who are always with us, win, lose or draw. We go together,” Conor Nestor, head coach of PKR Svay Rieng FC, posted on his Facebook page. The other two quarter-finals pairings were still playing their leg two matches as of press time.

Tiffy Army FC is matched against Prey Veng FC, while defending champion Boeung Ket FC is facing Visakha FC.

Tiffy Army FC beat Prey Veng FC, 1-0, during their first quarter-finals encounter in August. A draw or a win by the Army team will send it to the semis.

The first quarter-finals match between Boeung Ket FC and Visakha FC ended in a 1-1 draw. The winner this time will advance to the next round.
