The coach of Visakha football club said they are ‘confident and ready’ ahead of their
title game versus NagaWorld FC.
The two sides will face each other tomorrow at
the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh with the Hun Sen Cup title on the line. The
game starts at 6pm.
NagaWorld FC will be gunning for its second
title in the Hun Sen Cup. For Visakha FC, it will be the team’s first chance to
win a championship in Cambodia’s premier knockout tournament.
“I think we go into the game with great
confidence given our previous performances against Prey Veng and Boeung Ket,
though we are aware that we need to be more clinical infront of the goal,”
Colum Curtis, head coach of Visakha FC, said, referring to their previous games
against Prey Veng FC and Boeung Ket FC.
Visakha FC beat Prey Veng FC in the semi-finals
and knocked out defending champion Boeung Ket FC in the quarter-finals.
But Curtis cautioned that nothing can be taken
for granted.
“With Cup football, I’m aware that anything can
happen. We had 71 percent possession
against Prey Veng and 29 shots, but almost went out on penalties due to an
unbelievable performance from Vireak Dara at the goal,” he noted, referring to
Prey Veng FC’s star goalkeeper.
“I’m hoping that the game goes our way,” he
added.
Curtis said NagaWorld FC is a strong team with
a lot of experienced players.
“Naga goes into the game with a lot of
experienced players that have played together for a long time and they have
also worked with their coach for many years.
With the quality of players they have such as (Sos) Suhana, (Kouch)
Dani, (Va) Sokthorn, (Kouch) Sokumpheak and many more, I believe they too
should be looking to dominate possessions and be on the attack from the first
whistle,” he said.
“I hope they do as it will make it an exciting
Cup Finals for the fans,” he added.
Curtis said their plan is to dominate from the
get-go. “We will look to dominate the game from the first minute as we have
done in the previous stages of the Hun Sen Cup,” he stressed.
Curtis said it’s a great honour for them to be
in the finals.
“It’s a great honour to lead the club to their
first finals. It would not be possible without the hard work of the players.
With a big change in playing philosophy, they have adapted well and worked
tremendously hard over the course of the season. They fully deserve their place
in the finals,” he said.
“We have prepared very well, training has been
fantastic this week and the players are ready. I don’t know if we will win or
lose, but I am 100 percent confident that the players will give everything for
our fans and the Visakha jersey,” he concluded.
