The Ministry of Education has announced that it
will conduct inspections on sports venues across the country to make sure they
comply with health and safety guidelines set by the Ministry of Health
regarding COVID-19 prevention.
According to a statement from the Ministry of
Education on Friday, some sports venues have not implemented COVID-19
transmission prevention measures, especially at volleyball venues which have
reportedly held matches open for attendance without adhering to virus
prevention guidelines.
Secretary of State of Ministry of Education Sar
Sokha said that the government has allowed sports activities to continue as
long as they are behind closed doors and have the proper measures in place.
In June, the Ministry of Health said sports
activities were allowed to resume without spectators and on the condition that
no more than 100 athletes, coaches, technical officials and essential attendees
gathered at any one event.
The people present during those activities are also
expected to maintain proper hygiene and adhere to social distancing and other
strict measures intended to prevent the spread of the virus, the Ministry
added.
Chan Samnang, a sports teacher from Russey Keo
district, Phnom Penh, said that he has restarted teaching sports since June,
however, is only allowing classes of 10 students at a time, in order to adhere
to the measures.
“I do not teach many students in one class due
to COVID-19. I also don’t allow spectators at any of my classes to curb virus transmission,”
he said.
“Some people wear masks and keep their
distance, however, some do not, they must adhere to the guidelines set by the
ministry as it is important,” he said.
